Mind, Body and Spirit

We lost one of the greats last night. Steve Jobs, of Apple, died yesterday evening. He was a visionary and pioneer in the Apple world. Well to all of us around the world really. Steve didn't make this blog because of his inventions and visions... he made the blog because he was a Buddhist, a vegetarian, had a liver transplant and died of pancreatic cancer. I am not going to presume to know his life style or what he was going through, that's not what this blog is about. May he Rest In Peace.

It seems odd to many people that someone who publicly practiced healthy habits could die of such a disease. And from the sounds of the rumor mill, some would say that its almost not worth it to eat healthy, workout or have a spiritual practice if you are going to die anyway. I get that argument all of the time. That they know someone, who knows someone, who worked out daily and ate healthy meals and then died of a heart attack. But the truth of the matter is, it IS worth it to eat healthy, work out and have a regular spiritual practice. Living a holistic and BALANCED life is not just about eating healthy meals and working out. Having a healthy mind and spirit is so much a part of a healthy life as well. We've all been programmed with stuff that to us does not matter, let alone even means anything. It could take weeks, months, even years to undo one of the many G.R.E.M.L.I.N.S. we have grown to know and love. You know the ones that our parents and grandparents taught us? The ones that now make absolutely NO sense but we believe them anyway? Yeah those. Those beliefs could wreak havoc over our lives and cause dis-ease and illness and you would never have known that's what was killing you.

According to Louise Hay, "the pancreas represents the sweetness of life." Steve Jobs was one of the richest men in the world. However just because you have all of the money you can stand does not mean you are happy. Hay also says "for pancreatic cancer the emotional probable cause may represent Rejection. Anger and frustration because life seems to have lost it's sweetness." So again how can a husband, father, son, and innovator, feel like life is not so sweet? Again, I am not blogging to bash Steve's life, I am blogging about this to get people to understand that to be balanced, healing has to happen on all levels not just on the physical.  I worked for a company for three years. I got up everyday and I did my job with a smile. I laughed and joked with my co-workers, and I worked hard but I absolutely hated working there. The pay was decent and it awarded me things that I would not normally had. Bought a new car, moved into a bigger home but I was NOT happy. In the end, working there damn near killed me. It drained me emotionally and mentally to the point that I had nothing left. I was in bed at 6:30 or 7:00 pm every evening. I barely went anywhere on the weekends because I was still exhausted and then started all over again on Monday. That was no life.

I see people at the gym or on the road running and I think... Are they doing all that you can for a healthy life? Just because you work out and eat healthy doesn't mean you are healthy. Do for the mind and spirit what you would do for the body.
