Vitamin E.. friend or foe?

There has been a lot of talk lately about vitamin E and that there are dangers to using it. I was looking for a base recipe for my new lip butter called Escentual Lips. Most of the base recipes I found contain the ingredient vitamin e. I didn't have any in stock so I went out to my local store to purchase some, not my usual supplier. Vitamin E has a tremendous amount of healing properties so I wasn't surprised to see it listed in so many of the recipes. "Vitamin E is an antioxidant that plays a key role in DNA repair, immune function, and other physiological processes."

However when I went to the store, to my surprise the label said some other ingredients that were included in my vitamin e. Hmmmm that's strange. I had read that store bought vitamin E contained more than just vitamin E but I had always used other ingredients that contained the vitamin so I wasn't really investigating it until now. Vitamin E can be found in many foods, however taking more than what is required can be dangerous. "Vitamin E is actually a collective term for eight naturally occurring compounds, four tocopherols (alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-) and four tocotrienols (alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-). Concentrations of alpha-tocopherol are higher in wheat germ oil, almond and sunflower oil; gamma-tocopherol is the major form of vitamin E in corn oil and soybean oil; levels of tocotrienols are high in rice bran, barley, oats and palm oil." It is important to know what your products contain. Read the labels. Be label savvy. You never know when the product you are using may contain ingredients that you are actually allergic to.

NUBODI products are made with ingredients that already contain a high level of vitamin e such as olive oil, almond oil, grape seed oil, flax seed oil, and coconut oil just to name a few. All of the ingredients that go into NUBODI products are organic and free of dyes, chemcials and artifical colorings.

The Herbal Kingdom

People don't give the herbal kingdom nearly enough credit. "Traditional Chinese and Ayurveda herbal medicine are complete and thorough alternative medical systems developed more than 3000 and 5000 years ago. So why do so many people shy away from it when I suggest an herbal remedy to them? Herbs heal on so many levels. "The primary focus of holistic herbalism is to support the body's inherent healing capacity." There is so much to herbs that scientist have not even considered with regards to healing. By each herb having so many healing properties, a person can heal emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically, simultaneously. "The art of herbalism is not only in selecting the most effective herbs for the condition being treated but also in determining  how these herbs should best be prepared." While I am adverse in creating my own herbal blends, there are many proven remedies already created. As there are many herbal remedies, there are also as many methods in which a plant can be utilized. You can take an herb in a tincture form, capsule, tea, or ointment just to name a few. For example, the parts used in chamomile ar the flowers. The tea has been known to assist with minor digestive problems. Chamomile can also be found as an essential oil. The German Chamomile is a blue oil and used to assist with seeking spiritual guidance while the Roman Chamomile encourages calmness and stillness.

A flower of versatility

I love lavender (lavendula angustifofia). It has got to be my most favorite flower to use for healing. Lavender has so many healing properties that I can't possibily name them all here. Before I even learned of the healing properties for the physcial body, I was using lavender for spiritual uses. "Lavender has long been used in love spells and sachets. It is believed that the odor of lavender is conducive to long life and should be smelled often as possible." The lavender can be used in many forms. You can place the flowers under your pillow for a good night's rest or you can burn the essential oil of lavender for a peace and calming meditation session.  Some of the more modern uses for lavender have been for its use on burns and other skin conditions like eczema. it has antiseptic properties that make it an excellent treatment for the cold and flu. Lavender also blends well with several of the other essential oils to create a powerful synegistic blend. As a master herbalist, I am able to blend more than one essential oil to create a synergistic product. I blended lavender with tea tree and lemon grass to create a wonderful deodorant.
