Free Your Mind

You can catch me sitting in front of the tv with it turned off on most days. I don't watch tv anymore. Only movies and those are mostly on the weekends. I don't have cable. I felt why should I pay for cable if everyone is out of the house working? On average most people are out of the house from 10-12 hours a day. And you sleep for 6-8 of those. So... who is watching tv? So much of whats on tv is garbage anyway. We only use about 10% of our brain. If it doesn't stimulate or challenge my brain, I am not interested.

I did an interview on blogtalk radio about holistic health and one of the questions that was asked of me was "How do you feed your mind?" Simple. Doing activities like yoga, or meditation. Those not only feed the mind, they feed the spirit. But to challenge the mind and to get more use of it, try doing something different. If you keep doing what you always do or what you are use to, the mind will get use to it as well. If you must watch tv, watch something you have never watched before. Instead of the reality tv shows, watch the Discovery Channel or the History Channel. Take in a documentary. If reading romance novels tickles your fancy, try reading some science fiction or something on spirituality. Start a hobby. The point is to shift your mind on things that will challenge it. Crossword puzzles and brain teasers are excellent ways to challenge the mind. For me, one of the ways I decided to challenge myself and my mind was creating this blog. I had promised myself that I would blog everyday for an entire year and then create a book out of it. The challenging part is coming up with material to blog about as it relates to my topic and title: Health, Healing and Spirituality.

Are you pushing your brain to the limit? How are you challenging your mind?
